Mom’s Banana Nut Bread

When life hands you brown bananas – make banana bread!

Bbread Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sifted flour (whole wheat if you’re being good!)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup white sugar or honey
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp almond or walnut extract
  • 1 Tbl vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 3 mashed bananas (1 cup) the riper the better!


  • Combine sifted flour, soda, powder and salt
  • In a separate bowl, cream sugar, shortening and egg
  • Add banana and walnut or almond flavoring and vanilla
  • Mix in dry ingredients
  • Bake in greased pan in 350′ oven for 1 hour or until you can stick a toothpick in and remove it clean.
